Former UCLA Swimming Coach Ron Ballatore Dies

Ron Ballatore coached the UCLA Bruins for sixteen years, and guided them to a national championship in 1982.  He was also a coach on five Olympic teams.
 
Ron was recently selected by his peers, for the College Swimming Coaches Association’s highest honor, The National Collegiate and Scholastic Trophy.
 
During his tenure at UCLA, his teams compiled a 109-51 dual meet record, and Ballatore was named Pac-10 coach of the year three times.  He coached 28 Olympians, including gold medal winners Brian Goodell and Tom Jager.  His swimmers set eleven American and NCAA records, as well as several world records.  Ron also coached at Brown University from 1994-1996, and the University of Florida from 1996-1999.   

Ron’s son Ron Ballatore Jr. and Brian Goodell will accept his award at the CSCAA’s Annual Banquet on May 19th, in San Antonio.

The CSCAA has announced the annual award recipients to be presented at the 2012 Convention in San Antonio, Texas in May. 

 

Freeman Scholarship Recipients Announced

The CSCAA is proud to announce the inaugural recipients of the Jean Freeman Memorial Assistant Coach Scholarship to attend the CSCAA Convention.  The Convention will be held May 17-18-19 in San Antonio, Texas at the historic St. Anthony's Wyndham Riverwalk hotel.

The recipients are:

DI Men- Jesse Moore, College of William and Mary (Head Coach- Matt Crispino)
DI Women- Katie Robinson, Rutgers  (Head Coach- Phil Spinello)
DII Men- Shane Pelton, University of Bridgeport (Head Coach Brad Flood)
DII Women- Stephanie Palmeri, Long Island University-CW Post Campus (Head Coach Maureen Travers)
DIII Men- Christopher Sullivan, Colorado College (Head Coach- Anne Goodman James)
DIII Women- Karin Brown, Amherst College (Nick Nichols)

The recipients completed an application and the recommended recipients' names were forwarded to the CSCAA Executive Board from THE SUMMIT (The Summit for Empowering Women in Swimming) of which Jean was a founding member.
