Whitman College Assistant Swimming Coach

Whitman College is a premier liberal arts college in the Pacific Northwest.  Our swim teams are regular finishers in the top of the Northwest Conference and in the last five years have maintained a regular presence at NCAA’s.

Whitman College is now accepting applications for the position of Men’s and Women’s Assistant Swimming Coach. Position is full-time during the academic year; some summer recruiting hours; and includes a benefit package.  Responsibilities include: assisting in all areas of recruitment with opportunity to serve as recruiting coordinator, assisting with all aspects of training and competition, facilitating a dry land program, management of home events, administrative duties, travel arrangements, fund raising, camps and clinics, and other duties as assigned.  Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and ability to identify and recruit qualified student-athletes is a must.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree; at least two years successful coaching experience at the collegiate, club, or high school level; CPR/AED and either Lifeguarding or Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification; valid driver’s license and ability to successfully pass background check, driving record check, and ability to pass a physical.

The ideal candidate will show collegiate coaching experience and the desire to make college coaching a career.  He/she will have the opportunity to take advantage of educational and mentoring opportunities present in this position. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate outstanding skill instruction and stroke analysis; the ability to motivate swimmers in both training and competitive realms; experience with dry land programs for swimmers; strong administrative and computer skills, particularly with Hy-Tek software, Front Rush database management, and video analysis; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; and an appreciation for the role of intercollegiate athletics in a highly selective academic environment, along with the desire to help student-athletes strive for excellence and balance in that rigorous setting.
