Virginia Wesleyan College will begin both a men’s and a women’s intercollegiate NCAA Division III swimming program in the fall of 2017, employing the head coach this fall, 2016, to recruit the inaugural class of student-athletes. This position will be full-time, with the primary emphasis on recruiting qualified men and women who will become a part of a department with a longstanding tradition of excellence in both athletics and academics.
The successful applicant will possess the ability to work closely with enrollment and develop databases of quality student athletes. Other duties will include creating the schedules, ordering equipment and gear and strategic planning for both programs.
Additional responsibilities to begin in the second year include sport program management, fundraising, planning and scheduling practice and meets. The candidate will oversee the college aquatics programming in collaboration with the Associate Director of the Batten Center.
A bachelor’s degree with a minimum three years of successful coaching experience in men’s and women’s swimming at the college and/or professional level is preferred. Knowledge of ODAC and NCAA rules and regulations for compliance with D3 will be necessary. The successful applicant will have a valid driver’s license; strong public relations skills; excellent interpersonal and communications skills; and outstanding organizational skills.
