Who is Safe?
Yesterday’s announcement that Oregon State is eliminating their women’s swimming program sent a shock through the minds of coaches. One coach wrote, “Remember when everyone thought women’s programs were safe? “
The answer is no.
Men’s programs, women’s programs, it doesn’t matter because public higher education is getting squeezed between state budget cuts on one side and declining enrollment on the other. In fact, the state of higher education funding is one of the metrics that go into our annual team threat assessments.
