CSCAA Honors Excellence in Swimming and Diving at 2024 Annual Awards Celebration

The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) celebrated excellence in swimming and diving at their 63rd Annual Awards Celebration.

Indianapolis, IN - May 7, 2024 - Last night, the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) celebrated excellence in swimming and diving at their 63rd Annual Awards Celebration. The event recognized outstanding contributions to the sport and marked significant milestones in coaching careers.

Among the highlights of the evening was the introduction of the College Cup recognitions, a new award in partnership with Swim Across America. Two prestigious awards were presented in this category. The first was awarded to William Kerscher of Emory University, who was recognized as the top collegiate swimmer raising the most funds for cancer research through the Swim Across America Open Water Series in 2023. The second award went to Emory University as the top fundraising collegiate team. Head Coach Jon Howell accepted the award on behalf of the team, which raised an impressive $70,381 for cancer research through Swim Across America.

The celebration also honored several coaching veterans for their dedication and service to the sport. Notable milestones were reached by individuals spanning from 15 to 45 years of coaching experience.

The 2024 Annual Awards also marked the inauguration of the Division III Swimming & Diving Hall of Fame. A total of 38 coaches and athletes were inducted into the inaugural class.

The evening concluded with the presentation of the CSCAA's five major awards. Steve Collins, former head coach of the SMU women's swimming and diving team, received the prestigious National Collegiate and Scholastic Trophy in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport. Kyle Sockwell, a former Arizona State swimmer, was honored with the Ben Franklin Award for his innovative efforts in promoting swimming as a social influencer. Dennis Dale, longtime Minnesota head coach, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his remarkable coaching career. Doug Grooms, former head coach of Missouri S&T's swimming team, was named the recipient of the Richard E. Steadman Award, and Ambassador Andrew Young, a Howard University Alumni, received the Charles McCaffree Award for his outstanding success beyond the pool.

The CSCAA extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the award recipients and looks forward to continuing to celebrate excellence in swimming and diving.
