UVA Jumps to Top of Latest Dual Meet Poll

Led by a pair of wins over Michigan and Penn State, the University of Virginia women’s swimming & diving team moved up three places to take the top spot in the second College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) second NCAA Division I Team Rankings of the year.  The rankings will be released on a weekly basis throughout the 2015-16 season, alternating weeks between a men’s and women’s team ranking.

Ted Mullin ‘Hour of Power’ Relay: a Swimmer’s Perspective

The Ted Mullin Leave it in the Pool Hour of Power tradition was brought to Pomona-Pitzer swimming by our head coach, Jean-Paul Gowdy, when he transferred from Wheaton College.   As an incoming freshman, I was introduced to a multitude of new experiences, but the Hour of Power stands out clearly.  Now, as a recent graduate, it remains one of my favorite memories.  Nothing brings a team closer together than spending an hour racing, listening to music, eating cookies during the “sugar fuel break” and most importantly, raising awareness and money for cancer research.

Training for the Individual Medley

I’ve trained three athletes that have won seven NCAA individual medley titles. Kristine Quance won the 200 and 400 IM in 1994 and 1996 and the 400 in 1997. Erik Vendt and Ous Mellouli were champs in the 400 IM in 2002 and 2005. And while I didn’t train Brian Goodell at UCLA I suspect his endurance training at Mission Viejo was a factor in his success in winning three 400 IM NCAA titles.
