The Power of One

Fighting to keep your job or preserve your program can be soul-crushing.  Our losses are painful and public – there for everyone to see. At the same time our victories – out of fear that they are simply luck or merely temporary - remain hidden and are rarely acknowledged.  That means we only learn from our failures. This month, however, I met several coaches whose efforts are having a transformative effect in their department and on their campus. Of these, I’d like to share three examples who illustrate the influence that each of us can create.

CSCAA Celebrates Student-Athlete Success and Perfection for Seven Conferences

The CSCAA announced that seven conferences had 100% of their swimming and diving teams selected as Scholar All-America teams.  Every member of The American Athletic Conference, Big 12, Big East, Colonial Athletic Association, Missouri Valley, Northeast and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference- 161 teams in all - received Scholar All-America honors by earning GPAs of 3.00 or higher for the Fall Semester.

Samantha Barany Joins CSCAA

Greg Earhart, Executive Director for the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has announced the hiring of Samantha Barany to Director of Member and Legislative Services.  Barany comes to the CSCAA after serving as Associate Commissioner for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
